PAINTING & DRAWING
I wish I was a pony, that magic was real, that I could spend my days with the sun warming my wings as I languidly stretch them out. If I close my eyes and focus, I can almost feel them fluttering against my back. I am haunted by the idea that you will never truly understand another person because you are not them. I display my heart, glued down to my artwork, in a desire to rid the line between another person and myself. The burst of collaged bird wings, the explosion of a star beneath a touch, these are visual representations of a feeling lodged in my chest.
I may not be you, and you may not be me, but perhaps we just so happen to have seen the same show, read the same book, enjoyed the same film. Maybe we have the same favorite character, or have formed the same opinions about a developing storyline. I use familiar characters and stories in the hopes of the viewer understanding me on a level they may never have without a long placard next to a painting. I aim to create pieces that make other fans go ‘oh, I really understand,’ but that still give enough visual information so that those who aren’t in the know aren’t left behind.
