SCULPTURE
Your digital and physical existence is being quantified, cataloged, and traded. Surveillance technology has subtly crept into the framework of our society under the guise of a safety solution. As we begin to shift into a new technological age, an incredibly dense web of eyes and ears across the globe begins to fall under the control of entities we created but don't fully understand. Flock Security has developed and implemented a network of 100,000+ AI license plate reading cameras, which capture an average of 20 billion scans a month. These cameras and their collected data are fully accessible by law enforcement, where they are often misused; examples include stalking and the tracking of a woman attempting to get an abortion. Personal data is also being quietly shared with ICE to assist in deportation cases.

We are only at the beginning of AI’s development and implementation, which, even pessimistically, is projected to exponentially increase in power and accessibility over the coming years. These developing entities consume every aspect of our lives in an attempt to reflect us, without any capability of understanding humanity. Hyper-rich individuals control the future of these technologies with their own best interests in mind, willing to cut as many corners as possible to beat out their competitors. We have already begun to place military capabilities, social media's psychological influence, and a global network of surveillance in its hands. We still have time to influence if it's for better or for worse, and given the past and present state of humanity as a blueprint, I question if the decisions made by a superhuman AI entity with a global reach that is misaligned with our values would be in our favor.
